Ladakh, in the right light.

Composed for the hour, not the checklist. Photo guides who shoot for Outlook and Travel + Leisure.

Who is this trip for?
Photographers — pro, prosumer, or serious hobbyist — who want first-light and last-light access, not a coach-tour stop. Our photo guides shoot for Outlook Traveller, Travel + Leisure India and Condé Nast Traveller. They drive the schedule from the frame, not the checklist.
What gear should I bring?
A full-frame body or APS-C, a 24–70mm and a 70–200mm at minimum, ideally a 16–35mm. Tripod for dawn and Hanle. ND filters for Pangong long exposures. We brief specifics on confirmation; oxygen-friendly camera bags are something we know about.
Will Hemis Festival be on?
Hemis falls on the 10th day of the 5th Tibetan month — typically late June. We confirm dates each year and book the reserved gallery seats above the courtyard six months ahead. Photography is allowed; flash isn't.
What about the Milky Way?
Hanle was declared India's first Dark Sky Reserve. We arrange a telescope evening with the Indian Astronomical Observatory team, brief on safe altitudes for tripod work, and time the visit to a moon-free week. Bring a 14mm f/1.8 or fast 24mm.
