Kashmir or Ladakh — which Himalayan journey first?

If you are choosing between Kashmir and Ladakh for your first Himalayan journey, this question contains a choice that does not need to be made. But if you can only choose one — or if you want to know what each offers — here is what actually differs.

Is Ladakh safe for someone who has never been above 2,000 metres?
Yes, with acclimatisation. We build 2–3 days of rest in Leh before any higher travel. Carry oxygen if needed. Most first-timers manage well by day 4.
Is Kashmir safe to visit right now (2026)?
Kashmir is open to foreign tourists, with some restricted zones requiring permits. We work with the authorities and have been guiding here continuously. Your safety is our first concern.
Can I do Kashmir and Ladakh back-to-back?
Yes. 10 days in Kashmir (acclimatisation + culture) then 12 days in Ladakh (high altitude + monasteries) is our ideal first journey.
Which is more expensive?
Ladakh's high altitude means more expensive logistics (oxygen vehicles, high-altitude guides). Kashmir is generally lower cost. Pricing on enquiry for both.
