The Best Months to Visit the Himalaya, Region by Region (2026)
Each region of the Himalaya has its own rhythm — snow closes passes, monsoons drench valleys, harvests arrive on different calendars. We've composed this guide to help you choose not just which region, but which season makes the journey possible.
When is the best time to visit Kashmir?
April–June for spring flowers and mild weather, or September–October for clear light and the saffron harvest. July–August is possible but monsoon-prone.
When are Ladakh's high passes open?
May through October. June and September are ideal. The Manali-Leh and Srinagar-Leh highways close by November.
Can I visit multiple regions in one trip?
Yes, with careful timing. Kashmir + Ladakh works May–October. Bhutan + Nepal works October–November. Plan 3–4 months ahead so we can arrange permits.
When is the Hemis Festival?
26–27 June (lunar calendar dates, so they shift yearly in the Western calendar).
What about monsoon season?
June–September brings rain to most regions, but also lush greenery, fewer crowds, and lower prices. It's worth considering if you don't mind mist and leeches.
